t-2 days

And counting. I spent the last sultry, stunning Sunday afternoon of the summer scrubbing unidentified sticky substances off the tops and insides of 24 desks, carefully taping coordinated color paper strips to supply boxes, writing letters to my parents, making samples of our first three craft projects, removing inapporpiate reading material from the class library (left over from when I taught sixth grade), sharpening pencils, setting up my weekly schedule, posting the first day schedule, emailing sundry parents and colleagues, and researching olympic symbolism. Our first staff meeting is tomorrow. The kids arrive the day after that. So it begins.

The purpose of this blog is to process the process of teaching. One lone teacher in a typical New England town. I won't record more than that, and the names of my students and colleagues shall be changed to protect the innocent. My hope is to use this as a place to reflect on the challenges of teaching children in this current climate of public education. Let's see if that happens.
